*Brushstrokes Echo Every Region
SHAN is trekking cross country to explore cultural identities through art!
B.E.E.R. Art Crawl, spotlights microbreweries as representations of community. Through ingredients, branding, and shared traditions, local beer is a fitting symbol for exploring societal relationships. I am deeply passionate about the power of art to bridge cultural divides and inspire empathy.
SHAN hopes her paintings will spark conversation and connection as she travels through the states!

Selected Works
Another Beer, Deere?40x30”; oil on canvas
Another Beer, Deere?, reflects a tiny agricultural town in Wisconsin, using a high key palette to emulate a hazy early morning on the farm. This piece illustrates my fascination with the miniature abstract works of art that materialize as I paint reflections and semitranslucents. Along with reflections, my works of art emphasize complements and an exaggeration of the temperature of light.

Top It Off
24x48”; oil on canvas
Top it Off represents multiculturalism and acceptance. As each cap subtly and hyper-realistically reflects off of the one adjacent, we are reminded of how we are influenced by each other.
Fun facts: I altered two logos in order to include both of my son’s names, hidden in the work. All of the beer caps are hot glued to the stretcher in the back. This painting is strung to hang vertically or horizontally.

Key West DominoesDiptych: each panel 3x6'; oil on canvas
Key West Dominoes depicts the Cuban subculture within Key West, Florida. Reflections in the dominoes emulate the camaraderie and joyfully competitive chatter between players.
Fun facts: This was created as volunteer artwork in a juried contest. It hung in the Key West Customs House for 10 years.

Multicultural12x24"; oil on canvas

About B.E.E.R. Art Crawl
from the artist
As an artist deeply influenced by my experiences and travels, my work seeks to portray the commonalities and differences between cultural narratives and
identities, emphasizing how relationships shape our understanding of self and others. By understanding people from different backgrounds, we cultivate empathy and tolerance, break social barriers and appreciate our shared humanity. With over 30 years in public art education, and founder of an art driven charity, One World One Canvas I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of art in fostering empathy and connection among diverse communities.
Influenced by expressionism and pop art, my pieces focus on everyday objects as reflections of the society, most notably, beer. Yes, beer! Now that I have your attention, hear me out. I am excited to paint what I love most that is, reflections. And you thought I was going to say beer! Reflections off of cans and bottles and shimmering through liquid, transform these areas into abstract compositions within my representational pieces.
Local beer serves as a reflection of a region’s culture, traditions, and people. Each brew tells a story whether through its ingredients, branding, or the way it brings people together making it a fitting symbol for exploring identity and connection in my work. The deceptively disarming images portray serious significant relationships, personifying the objects and their relationships to each other.
