Long Hair or Short Hair?
SHAN recently cut off two and a half feet of hair to increase cancer awareness and raise money for a cancer patient, as well as donating the hair to a charity that makes wigs for those in need. You will see SHAN on this website with a variety of hair lengths. :)

About ShanBorn and raised in the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, SHAN earned bachelor’s degrees in Graphic Design and Art Education from the University of Illinois. Drawn irresistibly to the sun-drenched shores of the tropics, SHAN made her way to Florida. The tight-knit community of Key West wholeheartedly supports her mission to use art to make the world a better place. Inspired to aid others and unite cultures through the power of art, she founded a charity, One World One Canvas, bringing creative opportunities to thousands of children in underserved regions worldwide. A veteran educator, SHAN delights in the vibrant energy of her classroom, where laughter, curiosity and creativity intertwine. Her passion toward lifelong learning has led her to earn three master’s degrees, including Educational Administration, from Florida State University as well as an MA and MFA (pending) from Academy of Art University. Her work is currently exhibited at The Gardens of Weber Manor in Miami, Florida.
Influenced by her Graphic Design background, SHAN’s paintings transform ordinary objects into luminous moments, revealing the unseen spark of life that often goes unnoticed. Her work invites a deeper connection, revealing layers of emotion below the surface. SHAN loves to travel and her work invites the viewer on a journey for a glimpse of ‘that moment in time’. With an insatiable thirst for adventure, SHAN thrives on exploring, hiking, camping, and rock climbing in the company of friends, family and God. Each new escapade leaves its imprint on her art, shaping her ever-evolving creative vision. Rooted in her faith, love for humanity and awe of the world’s beauty, SHAN’s art reflects her soul, inviting others to pause, connect, and see the extraordinary within the ordinary. |
Why Travel?I love to travel and explore. Adventure fuels my art inspiration, and each new journey leaves its imprint on my creative vision. This year, I am trekking cross country to explore cultural identities through art. My series, B.E.E.R. Art Crawl, focuses on how microbreweries represent each community.

Why Paint?Simply put, I have such a strong inner desire to paint that I cannot resist or ignore it. I have to create. Each time I finish a painting session, it always feels like I'm emerging from a dream.
